Somali Forces Launch Significant Operation to Eliminate al-Shabaab Strongholds in Lower Shabelle

In a bold move against Al-Shabaab, Somali government troops from the renowned 14th October Battalion, embarked on a significant assault at daybreak on Tuesday. They converged on 15 villages nestled between Shalaanbood and Janaale in Lower Shabelle, dismantling hideouts that harbored insurgents, according to military insiders.

Lieutenant Colonel Nuur Farey, who commands the seasoned battalion, mentioned that their objective was straightforward: eradicate the lurking threats posed by Al-Shabaab and usher in a new era of peace to the embattled region. He remarked, while exuding optimism, “Our mission is part of a larger initiative to wipe out Al-Shabaab’s influence in these strategic areas.”

The operation played out in numerous villages such as Kaaytooy, Mushaani, Majabto, and the notorious Doonkaa Daafeedow—places where skirmishes between government forces and Al-Shabaab have been a recurring theme. Although actual figures weren’t shared, the militants faced hefty losses.

Sweeping through to ensure no stone was left unturned, the government troops are vigilant in their efforts to purge lingering threats and pave the way for the safe return of locals. These crucial villages were formerly under Al-Shabaab’s vice-like grip, doubling up as key strongholds for their militant escapades.
