Police in Mandera confiscate 190 bags of illicitly transported sugar at the Kenya-Ethiopia border.
In a recent crackdown, security personnel in Mandera snagged 190 bags of sugar that hadn’t gone through customs in the Siftu region, nestled close to the border of Kenya and Ethiopia.
Acting on a tip from locals, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported the seizure this past Wednesday.

“After we took a gander, it was crystal clear—this truck was ferrying a hefty 190 bags, each clocking in at 25 kilos, of sugar without customs clearance,” according to the DCI.
The truck is now parked at the Mandera Police Station, awaiting a once-over by customs bigwigs from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
Reaffirming their stand, the DCI expressed their resolve to block the flow of non-customed items into the market and gave kudos to the public for pitching in with info that bolsters security missions.
