Hargeisa (AX) — North Western State of Somalia President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro has renewed his call for a peaceful, negotiated resolution to the political dispute with the Northeastern Administration.

Speaking Saturday at the Presidential Palace, Irro said his government remained prepared to pursue dialogue. The discussions centered on peace, unity and social cohesion. Irro said preserving stability had been a central priority of his administration since he assumed office on Dec. 12, 2024.

The president said political disagreements and tensions could be overcome through dialogue, mutual understanding and brotherhood. He reiterated that his administration was ready to seek a peaceful settlement with the Northeastern Administration.

Irro also welcomed the return of North Western State of Somalia politician Fahiima Yusuf Quuje, saying her move could support efforts to promote peace and social cohesion, especially in the eastern parts of the Sool region.

He urged all sectors of society to contribute to peace and unity, emphasizing that safeguarding security and stability was a collective responsibility.

North Western State of Somalia and the Northeastern Administration, previously known as the Khatumo administration, have been engaged in a conflict over control of parts of the Sool region, including Las Anod.

The Northeastern Administration was formally established across parts of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn after years of conflict and political disputes with North Western State of Somalia over governance and control of the contested areas.
