MLS prospect Robbie Robinson called up Chile
Robbie Robinson has been invited to join the Chilean national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The Inter Miami forward – who was taken as number one in the MLS draft 2020 – has been in good shape late and reached three goals in his last five games to help the Herons turn their stuttering season.
Robinson’s father is American while his mother is Chilean. He holds dual citizenship and according to the Miami Herald, Chile’s coach Martin Laserte has invited the forward to join the squad.
La Roja has three tough World Cup qualifiers against Brazil, Ecuador and Colombia in early September, but Robinson has not yet decided whether to accept the call. It is said that he would have the honor of playing for either Chile or the USMNT and according to his agent, he will soon make a decision between the two nations.
If he chooses to accept Chile’s invitation, he will miss Inter Miami’s MLS matches against FC Cincinnati and the Columbus Crew.
This would be a real blow for Phil Neville’s side, who have just started to turn around after a terrible start to the season. Neville has also praised Robinson in the past.
Speaking after his team’s 3-1 win over FC Toronto, where the kid scored a fantastic solo goal, Neville said: “There is more to come. I think in terms of his fitness, physique, confidence, I think we are just see a minute percentage of what that boy can do in terms of what he gives the team. The opportunity to go from defense to offense is breathtaking.
“He learns every day, how to become a really good player and we just have to keep letting him grow and letting him have opportunities and keep managing him as best we can and he can go as far as he wants to go. ”
