Chelsea transfer news: Zouma rejects Sevilla transfer

Exclusive – Kurt Zouma has told Chelsea that he is not ready to join Sevilla, despite the club’s desire to use him in exchange for Jules Kounde.

The 26-year-old had earmarked to go to Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium as part of the deal to take Kounde to Stamford Bridge, but there is no idea the Frenchman is prepared to entertain.

A source has said 90 minutes that Zouma has told Chelsea he wants to stay in London, and that could give West Ham a significant boost in their attempts to bring him to London Stadium. The Hammers want to strengthen their alternatives in central defense and there has already been contact between the two clubs about a permanent move.

News of Zouma’s reluctance to move to La Liga is a blow to Chelsea in their quest for Kounde, but is unlikely to stop them from completing a deal. Several players have been offered to Sevilla in exchange, but the club can afford a straight cash purchase if the Andalusians are not interested in any of the talents offered.

Chelsea are keen to bring in Kounde as they look to strengthen their own backline amid uncertainty over Andreas Christensen’s and Antonio Rudiger’s long – term future. Both players are entering the last 12 months of their contracts and have not yet agreed on new terms despite head coach Thomas Tuchel’s desire to tie them for a long time.
