Nearly 3,000 athletes between the ages of 14 and 17 will compete in 25 sports over the next two weeks in Dakar, Diamniadio and the coastal town of Saly, as Senegal stages the first Olympic event ever held on African soil. The publication says Senegal’s wider test will be whether it can turn the international attention and substantial investment surrounding Dakar 2026 into lasting sports infrastructure, new economic opportunities and a stronger platform for youth development.
