Uganda has a sad record of five times

The presence in Uganda of the five variants is one of the reasons for the epidemic outbreak that the country in the Great Lakes region is currently experiencing when it had been relatively spared during the first wave.

Strict containment had prevented the spread of the epidemic during the first wave of Covid in Uganda, but because there has been a relaxation of barrier gestures, but the spread is accelerating today. The country is fortunate to have five variants, explains Ugandan Minister of Health Jane Acheng.

“We have it in South Africa, the one in England, the one in India, the one in Brazil and also a clear Ugandan variant. Having the five variants in the country puts us in a very difficult situation and the transfer is very strong, says the minister.

Ugandan hospitals lack caregivers, but also oxygen for the sick, Jane Acheng emphasizes. “We also have the problem of access to oxygen for the sick population with a limited source. This means that we will have more deaths. ”

The country can produce oxygen, it is the cylinders that transport what is missing. Uganda is also calling for a better distribution of covid vaccines. To date, the country has received only one million doses.
