Mogadishu (AX) – Somali military forces recently carried out a successful operation, reportedly neutralizing 24 al-Shabab insurgents and injuring 30 others in Lower Shabelle, as per military sources.

The seventh brigade of the Somali National Army (SNA) spearheaded this offensive, targeting a cluster of small settlements like Kaliga, Libahale, Kaharow, Doonka, and Bululow. These locations had become gathering points for militants.

“We’ve taken down more than 24 insurgents and injured over 30. Plus, we obliterated one of their vehicles, although they absconded with some medical supplies,” the federal government expressed in a statement.

The assault was under the leadership of military commander Ahmed Abdi Ali Ahmed Gashaan, who asserted that such operations will persist until al-Shabab’s influence in the region is but a memory.

“Our mission to cleanse Lower Shabelle of al-Shabab continues uncompromised,” declared Gashaan. The timing of this military undertaking aligns with the National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting in Mogadishu, where crucial dialogues among federal and regional authorities focus on the advancement of military campaigns against al-Shabab.
