In Libya, thousands of Africans have been imprisoned for years in abuses where they have been abused. Among them are many Syrian migrants, who had chosen to become mercenaries in order to cross into Europe.

The Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Observatory (OEDH) this week condemns the “inhumane acts of the Libyan authorities” against hundreds of Syrians, who remain in these Libyan centers for four months.
They are said to be 800 Syrians imprisoned in four prisons in Tripoli and the surrounding area, according to the OEDH. These men, all brought to Libya as mercenaries on behalf of Turkey, prefer to drop their weapons to reach Europe.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), these fighters have also agreed to go to Libya with the firm intention of heading to Europe. On several occasions, since 2020, Rami Abderrahmane, head of this non-governmental organization, has announced the death. during the crossing, by Syrians traveling among other African migrants.
Beaten, tortured, … In Libyan prisons, Syrian prisoners are subjected to the same abuses as all migrants captured by the Libyan authorities as they try to reach Europe. They are beaten, tortured, subjected to multiple violations, do not have enough food and do not have access to drinking water or medicine.
They are also racketeering and sometimes pay $ 1000 to regain their freedom. The OEDH considers that the Libyan government leading these centers is responsible for “all arbitrary methods” prevailing there.
In 2020, the Khalifa Haftar camp accused Turkey of encouraging the immigration to Europe of these warriors who are said to be at least 1,000 who have arrived in Lampedusa.
