Achraf Hakimi tests positive for Covid-19

Achraf Hakimi has tested positive for Covid-19 a little more than a week after sealing his move to Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports.

The Moroccan international was expected to make his second appearance for Les Parisiens in their left-handed match against Chambly on Saturday, but was absent from Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

While new hires Georginio Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnarumma were also absent after their participation in Euro 2020, Nathan Bitumazala’s inclusion in the right-back came as a surprise given that Hakimi had started his first pre-season outing against Le Mans on Wednesday.

RMC has now revealed that Hakimi tested positive for coronavirus before PSG’s collision with Chambly and is then forced to endure a period of self-isolation.

There has been no official word from the club about Hakimi’s positive test, but his participation in their Trophee des Champions match against Ligue 1 champions Lille on August 1 is now threatened.

Pochettino’s side were denied their second win in two games against Chambly thanks to Boubacari Doucoure’s late equalizer.

Mauro Icardi had left his lead from the penalty spot in the first half before midfielder Guillaume Heinry equalized shortly after half-time.

Xavi Simon’s goal halfway through the second half seemed to have guaranteed the PSG victory, but their 100% record in the pre-season so far ended thanks to Doucoures’ 89-minute strike.

Hakimi was not the only remarkable summer signing left out of the team sheet, and Sergio Ramos also failed to attend the Ligue 1 kit.

The Spanish defender recently signed a two-year deal in the French capital after ending his glittering 16-year stay at Real Madrid, but so far he has not made an appearance for the club.

Pochettino has not yet commented on the midfielder’s absence, but PSG fans hope to have the chance to see their new man in action in the coming weeks as their side prepare to face Augsburg and Genoa before the annual French season curtain increase against Lille.
