In this email, Paul Rafanoharana claimed funding of € 10 million for political destabilization. The email was addressed to the majority owner of Madagascar Oil, Benchmark Group. As a reminder, Madagascar Oil has the largest heavy oil resources in the country, with the Tsimiroro and Bemolanga fields.

The general management never responded to this request. This was told by Russell Kelly, head of Mada Oil, to the police on Saturday 24 July and during a press conference yesterday Monday, where no questions were asked. However, the management of the Benchmark Group did not warn the Malagasy authorities about what was happening; the exact content of the email in question was not disclosed, nor was the date of the correspondence.

Investigations continue in this case of attacks on state security where two French people were arrested on July 20. According to the prosecutor, the investigators have physical evidence that Paul Rafanoharana, a French-Malagasy, and Philippe François, a French, planned to assassinate “senior politicians”, including the President of the Republic, Andry Rajoelina. A third person was arrested this weekend from a source close to the case. This is Philippe François and Paul Rafanoharana partners in Tsarafirst Investment Fund.
