High-Level Talks: Somali Foreign Minister Convenes with UN Deputy Representative for Diplomatic Dialogue

In Mogadishu, Somalia’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi Ahmed had a meeting with UN’s Deputy Special Representative, Mr. Raisedon Zenenga. They discussed the progress in security and politics and the cooperation between Somalia and the UN.

The meeting focused on creating a joint technical committee from Somalia and the UN to work on the transition process towards a UN country office. This collaboration aims to enhance the relationship between the Federal Government of Somalia and the United Nations.

Recently, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed James Christopher Swan as the acting special representative for Somalia. Swan will take over temporarily after Catriona Laing of the United Kingdom departed. The Secretary-General expressed gratitude for Laing’s dedicated service during a challenging time in Somalia and UNSOM.
