AXADLE, Northeastern State – Northeastern State President Said Abdullahi Deni is not interested in running for president before Somalia’s next election, Northeastern State said, just hours after a federal minister made sensational allegations on Twitter, prompting anxiety in the country.

In a tweet, Gamal Mohamed Hassan, the Minister of Planning, who is also MP for Northeastern State, said the regional president wanted to participate in the next elections, which are scheduled for October 10 this year.

Gamal, a close ally of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, called on Deni to “withdraw from election-related matters” and “immediately cease interfering in the affairs of the technical electoral committees”. This was the first major allegation Deni plans to make.

“We can no longer silently watch the blatant disregard for the democratic integrity of the Northeastern State administration,” said Gamal, a former Somali ambassador to Kenya, in what could spark political divisions in the country after a long period. electoral.

As Deni delayed announcing his candidacy in order to gain influence and control over the Northeastern State elections, clan elders, representatives and parliamentary candidates have all expressed deep concern over the scale of the campaign. manipulation, intimidation and interference, ”he added.

But in a quick response, Northeastern State dismissed the claims as “baseless” in a statement released by spokesman Jama Deperani, saying the minister was on a mission to taint the head of Somalia’s oldest state.

“Minister Gamal Your tweet is no different from previous ones where you have used this platform to incite violence and conflict in Northeastern State. Northeastern State is a 23-year-old state, having already held state and federal elections , some of which resulted in the single vote as a difference, ”he said.

“After 23 years of demonstrable maturity, it is unfortunate that you are trying to paint a bad picture of Northeastern State and its people! History remains the judge,” added the spokesperson, in a statement also quoted by the Northeastern State presidency. .

Gamal is a candidate for the Somali FG House of Representatives in the elections scheduled for August 10 to September 10 this year. Jamal, during his tenure as a cabinet member, was very close to outgoing President Farmaajo.

Somalia is due to run in the July 25 elections which will culminate with the presidential elections on October 10, 2021. Among those seeking to oust, Farmajo includes former Presidents Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as well as former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire .
