Misssouri Man Charged with Abduction and Murder of Woman Discovered in Suitcase Along Highway 59

AX Minneapolis – Mahamud Tooxoow Mahamed, 39, originally from Noel, Missouri, faces a new indictment in connection to the 2019 murder of Jessica McCormack, whose body was found in a suitcase along Highway 59. The updated charges now include kidnapping resulting in death and stalking resulting in death, broadening the scope of the accusations against him.

Originally indicted in August 2019, Mahamed, a Somali national and U.S. permanent resident, was linked to McCormack’s death, when her body was discovered between Lanagan and Noel, Missouri. McCormack was last seen alive on July 16, 2019, and her tragic death has been directly connected to Mahamed through the kidnapping and stalking charges.

The case has deeply impacted the community, particularly when McCormack’s three daughters went missing briefly after her death. The kids were eventually found in Des Moines, Iowa, over 200 miles away, under the care of a former acquaintance of Mahamed. An Amber Alert was issued for the children, who were located and safely taken into state custody on August 8, 2019. Mahamed is the father of one of McCormack’s three children.

The revised indictment also revisits charges involving the kidnapping of McCormack’s four-year-old daughter, whom Mahamed took across state lines from Missouri to Iowa without the father’s approval. Authorities stated Mahamed was a fugitive until being captured in Guatemala in July 2021, after almost a year on the lam.

The apprehension and additional charges represent a significant turn in a case spanning multiple states, involving various law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and police departments from McDonald County, Missouri, Noel, Missouri, Rochester, Minnesota, and Des Moines, Iowa.

Legal procedures are ongoing, with evidence being prepared for presentation to a federal trial jury to decide Mahamed’s fate. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ami Harshad Miller is currently prosecuting the case.
