In the Democratic Republic of Congo, justice has not yet ended with Brenda Okale, the widow of the former head of military intelligence, Delphin Kahimbi, and her mother, acquitted to everyone’s surprise on Monday by the tribunal de grande instance Kinshasa-Gombe.
The two women were accused of murdering General Delphin Kahimbi dated 28 February 2020, from which the court acquitted them. But they were officially arrested for violating the conditions of detention under house arrest on May 30, a week before the verdict in their favor.
With RFI, Brenda Okale, who spent her first night in custody with her mother, condemns a stunt by the prosecution and a cavalier.
“She is accused of trying to escape with the children on May 30 because she had asked permission to go to church. Justice kindly reminded her that no, she could not until the day of the verdict and until we, we have permission to let you evacuate freely. That’s simply it, ”explains his lawyer, Bijoux Tshivuadi Mulumba.
“She is now in custody at the level of the Kinshasa-Gombe prosecutor’s office. I’m helping him. She will be heard by the prosecutor. Of course, she was acquitted. What we had as a test to go through, it is infinitely painful and unbearable, thank goodness, we have lived it. What has just happened is just a cherry that will be consumed quickly and we get a nice result. The so-called experiment happened on May 30. 8 days later she was acquitted. We will pass this test with courage and brio. It’s painful, it hurts, but it’s hardened, “added Master Tshivuadi Mulumba at the RFI microphone, who is still convinced that this matter will be resolved quickly by Congolese justice.
