In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry said Abdelatty reiterated Cairo’s full support for the Federal Republic of Somalia and its national institutions, and said Egypt was closely following developments on the ground, particularly in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

He stressed the need to safeguard Somalia’s security and stability, and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to helping the country preserve peace and reinforce state institutions.

The Egyptian foreign minister also restated Cairo’s support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, making clear that Egypt rejects any unilateral steps that could weaken Somali sovereignty or fracture the country’s territory.

For his part, Somali Foreign Minister Abdi Ali praised Egypt’s steady position in support of Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and said Mogadishu remained committed to close coordination and consultation with Cairo on matters of shared concern.

The conversation comes as regional efforts continue to bolster stability in Somalia and deepen cooperation between the two countries on political and security issues.
