NCIC Denounces Ongoing Hostilities Between Akamba and Somali Communities in Mandongoi

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has publicly criticized the escalating violence between the Akamba and Somali populations in Mandongoi, located in Kyuso Sub-County. NCIC Chairperson Samuel Kobia expressed deep concern over the turmoil that has wreaked havoc on the local communities. “This conflict threatens the fragile stability we have worked so hard to build,” Kobia stated.

The unrest has tragically resulted in loss of life, injuries, and the theft of livestock. Kobia made it clear, “This is intolerable and poses a serious risk to the delicate peace that has long prevailed in the region.” On a somber note, he extended his condolences to the families mourning these devastating losses and urged residents from Kitui and Tana River counties in Kyuso to abstain from actions that could further ignite the already explosive situation.

Furthermore, Kobia called on leaders within the two counties to reaffirm their pledge toward a peaceful negotiation to resolve the discord. He emphasized the need for politicians to steer clear of any inflammatory rhetoric that could escalate tensions. “As an entity dedicated to promoting harmony in Kenya, we are alarmed by the reckless comments from certain officials, which have only served to heighten conflicts,” he remarked.

In a more positive light, Kobia commended those political figures actively advocating for peace, encouraging their supporters and communities to maintain tranquility while allowing security forces to manage the situation and uphold law and order. The NCIC, in partnership with other pertinent government bodies, has initiated investigations into the ongoing strife.

Reiterating the commission’s mission, Kobia asserted, “We are devoted to fostering dialogue aimed at achieving lasting peace for the communities residing along the Kitui-Tana River border.”
