Brazil Chosen as Host Country for 2027 Women’s World Cup

Following the withdrawal of the United States and Mexico’s co-host bid, Brazil has been chosen to host the upcoming Women’s World Cup event. The United States and Mexico were originally favored to host the FIFA tournament but withdrew their offer in April. As a result, Brazil will be the host of the 2027 Women’s World Cup, beating out a joint bid from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. South Africa also pulled their bid in November of the previous year. This left Brazil and the European collaborative bid as the only remaining contenders for the hosting rights. On Friday, the announcement was made that Brazil would have the honor of hosting the first-ever Women’s World Cup in South America. FIFA President Gianni Infantino congratulated Brazil on their successful bid and expressed his gratitude to the BNG bid. The decision was made at FIFA’s annual congress in Bangkok, marking the first time that a Women’s World Cup host was chosen through an open vote. Brazil received 119 votes, while their competitors received 78. Previously, Brazil had launched a bid to host the 2023 tournament but withdrew it due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Ultimately, Australia and New Zealand co-hosted the event, with Spain emerging as the victor over England in the final match.
