A senior Nigerian military officer was killed in Abuja after armed assailants tried to kidnap him from his home, authorities said. The officer, identified as Colonel Abdussalam Ude, reportedly died in a shootout with the attackers at his residence inside an army estate, according to the Nigerian Defence Intelligence Agency. “Security and law enforcement agencies have commenced a full investigation into the incident, and every effort is being made to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible,” an army statement said.
In its tribute, the army described Ude as a committed officer who served the country with “exceptional dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment”. The killing underscores continuing security concerns around the army estate, which has been targeted in previous attacks that led to abductions and deaths.
