Somalia: Puntland State Moves to Prosecute Politicians and Officers Accused of Threatening Security
AXADLE, Somalia – Puntland State’s Council of Ministers has ordered politicians, military officers and others accused of weakening the region’s security and state institutions to be referred for prosecution, according to an official statement issued after a cabinet meeting.
The decision was announced in a communiqué read by Puntland State’s Deputy Minister of Information after the session, which was chaired by President Said Abdullahi Deni.
The cabinet also commended recent operations by the Puntland State Defense Forces in Bosaso and Galkayo. Puntland State’s government said the actions had disrupted what it described as a Federal Government plan to provoke insecurity in the region. The Federal Government has not publicly addressed the allegation.
Security agencies were instructed to prevent military vehicles and armed personnel not formally attached to Puntland State’s security institutions from operating or moving within the region. The government said the restriction is designed to uphold law and order, strengthen security and stop unauthorized armed activity.
The statement said judicial authorities would pursue legal proceedings against those identified, while security agencies would continue implementing measures intended to protect Puntland State’s security and state institutions.
The cabinet described the decisions as part of wider efforts to preserve Puntland State’s stability and constitutional order.
