Somali Authorities Detain 12 Individuals After Clan-Related Assault at Mogadishu Police Precinct
Mogadishu (AX) — On Saturday, Somali law enforcement apprehended a dozen individuals following a well-orchestrated clan-driven assault on a police precinct close to the Ex-Control Afgoye crossroads in Mogadishu, as reported by Police Spokesperson Colonel Abdifatah Adan Hassan.
This brazen attack saw armed factions and government forces from various military divisions engaging in conflict, seemingly influenced by clan affiliations. Colonel Abdifatah elaborated that the Somali Police Force was collaborating with the Hodan district administration to bolster road safety when they were ambushed by an armed faction opposed to the government’s security initiatives.
The spokesperson expressed astonishment at the sight of military personnel uniting along clan lines in 2024, emphasizing the dire ramifications for national cohesion. “We’ve taken about 12 individuals into custody at the Hodan police headquarters. They’ll face a judge within the next 24 hours. It’s disheartening to witness troops and officers aligning with their clans in such a manner,” remarked Colonel Abdifatah.
As per local eyewitness accounts, the skirmish claimed the lives of at least two individuals, leaving five others wounded in a residential area near the Ex-Control Afgoye intersection.
