Thousands streamed to mosques and open spaces at daybreak to perform the Eid prayer, then embraced and traded greetings as the month of Ramadan came to an end.

In the capital, major prayer grounds filled quickly as worshippers gathered shoulder to shoulder, and the same holiday scenes played out nationwide. Throughout the day, families moved between relatives’ homes, shared meals and gave alms to the poor, reflecting long-standing Islamic tradition.

Officials from the Federal Government of Somalia, regional administrations and the Banadir regional administration released congratulatory messages, applauding Somalis for marking the holiday together.

Leaders highlighted themes of unity, solidarity and compassion, urging citizens to use Eid as a moment to reinforce social ties and extend support to vulnerable members of society.

Eid al-Fitr, which marks the conclusion of the holy month of fasting, is among Somalia’s most significant religious holidays, often drawing communities together across political and regional lines.
