In a statement released in Mogadishu, the Federal Government said that, as a member of the United Nations Security Council, Somalia considers the ceasefire a timely and significant move toward de-escalation, confidence-building and the preservation of peace and security.
The government praised the United States for what it called leadership in promoting restraint and dialogue, while also recognizing Iran’s role in supporting diplomatic efforts. It further thanked Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt for their mediation, saying their contributions helped bring the agreement together.
Somalia, positioned strategically along the Red Sea and close to major Gulf shipping lanes, underscored the need to carry out the ceasefire and keep formal dialogue going in pursuit of a comprehensive and lasting settlement.
“The security of maritime routes and the uninterrupted flow of international trade remain vital to regional stability and global economic resilience,” the statement said.
The government reiterated its support for peaceful conflict resolution, respect for sovereignty and the central place of diplomacy in addressing international crises. It also emphasized adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter, including the peaceful settlement of disputes.
Somalia said the ceasefire should be seen not as a conclusion, but as the starting point for durable peace built on dialogue, mutual respect and shared responsibility. The government added that it stands ready to back international efforts aimed at consolidating peace, easing tensions and strengthening stability across the region.
