In a statement issued Tuesday, the commission said the incident occurred on May 20 in the Diigta Margoos area of Kamjiroon, where armed men were reported to have killed civilians.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
“The commission is gathering information on what happened and the circumstances surrounding the killings,” the statement added.
Officials said the inquiry is being carried out in coordination with local authorities, civil society organizations and independent sources in an effort to assemble complete and credible information.
The commission emphasized that the protection of civilian life is a basic right under Somalia’s federal constitution and international human rights treaties.
It urged security and judicial institutions to fulfill their duties in safeguarding civilians, preserving public order and ensuring those responsible are held to account.
Dr. Maryan Qasim Ahmed, chairperson of the commission, extended condolences to the families of the victims and others affected by the violence.
The commission said it will keep monitoring the case, pursue follow-up steps and investigate alleged rights violations as part of its push for accountability and justice.
