Mr Hendrickson, 20, was named Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year 2023 at the Fresh International Film Festival and was widely known in his local community.

He was in his second year as a student at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

Labour TD Marie Sherlock said the news has left neighbours and friends devastated, with many rallying around the Hendrickson family.

She said: “I have just become aware of this tragedy today my heart goes out to the family.

“I understand that he had an incredible future as a filmmaker ahead of him, and our thoughts are with the family.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is providing consular assistance to Mr Hendrickson’s family.
