Malia’s armed forces announced late Saturday night the kidnapping of three Chinese citizens and two Mauritanians working for construction companies on Malia’s border with Mauritania.

as reported from Bamako, Serge Daniel

The company consortium is responsible for paving roads and building bridges in Malian region Nara, located not far from the Mauritanian border, worked with employees from several countries: Mali, China, Mauritania and Benin.

According to several sources, it was surprising that armed terrorist groups, the official terminology for jihadists, intervened. As usual, some were on motorcycles and all on familiar ground.

After kidnapping three Chinese nationals and two Mauritanians, a first group of attackers reportedly headed north. Another group destroyed or burned the work equipment on site: cranes, tar tanks or even compactors. Vehicles were also washed away.

The Malian army, which has a position a few tens of kilometers from the site of the attack (Ould Issa military camp), claims to have sent soldiers there to track down the jihadists. The presence of the latter on the ground is worrying, especially since they are located between two countries, Mali and Mauritania.
