Tragic Explosion Rocks Beledweyne, Claiming Two Lives

Beledweyne (AX) – On Sunday afternoon, in Beledweyne, a central Somali town in Hiiraan, a blast claimed the lives of at least two individuals, one of whom was a soldier.

Locals reported that the detonation occurred near a Somali government security checkpoint, proximate to Djibouti troops assigned to the ATMIS mission within Howlwadag neighborhood.

So far, Beledweyne’s law enforcement and the Hirshabelle State authorities have remained silent about the occurrence, and no faction has taken credit for the attack.

Interestingly, this explosion coincided with the day ATMIS transferred control of the forward operating base in Beledweyne to the National Armed Forces. This turnover signifies the fifth base handed over as part of phase three of the ATMIS force reduction.
