Ethiopia Urges Caution Amidst Misinformation Surrounding North Western of Somalia Agreement

Ethiopia Cautions Against Misleading Info on North Western of Somalia Pact

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – On Wednesday, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister’s Office issued a public notice warning people about circulating false details online regarding a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with North Western of Somalia.

They stressed the necessity for verifying facts before jumping to conclusions, as misleading information can spread like wildfire and cause substantial damage.

“We urge the public to stay alert and disregard bogus information about an MOU with North Western of Somalia circulating online,” read the statement.

The notice underscored the point that any official news about local, regional, or global matters would come directly from sanctioned sources only.

The Office further warned, “Be wary of deceptive content abusing our official seal.”

The MOU, inked on January 1, 2024, permits Ethiopia access to a strategic seaport. However, Somalia’s government viewed this move as a hostile breach of their sovereignty.
