Jubbaland Legislators Abolish Term Limits, Extend Presidency to Five Years

Kismayo (AX) – The Jubbaland Regional Parliament has rubber-stamped changes to two constitutional articles, clearing the way for Ahmed Madobe to chase a third stint as head honcho.

In Tuesday’s parliamentary meeting in Kismayo, lawmakers gave Article 70 the axe, waving off the previous cap of two terms.

Jubbaland’s big cheese, Ahmed Mohamed Madobe, now has the green light to vie for yet another term at the helm. They also tinkered with Article 65, tacking on an extra year to the presidential term, stretching it from four to five.

Next month will see the ballots rolling in Jubbaland, with the federal authorities and rival camps keenly eyeballing the proceedings for any shenanigans.
