Mogadishu (AX) — Two Al-Shabaab commanders were killed in separate operations by local forces in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region on Aug. 21, the Ministry of Defense said.
The ministry said forces raided an Al-Shabaab hideout outside Daru-Nicma, killing Hassan Hussein Hurshow, known by the alias Hassan Garabdheere.

According to the ministry, Garabdheere oversaw Al-Shabaab operations in the area the group calls Sakawad, which includes Adaddeey, Adaan-Lexeey and Daru-Nicma in Ruun-Nirgood district, Middle Shabelle.
One fighter assigned to protect the commander was also killed, while another Al-Shabaab member was wounded, according to the statement.
In a separate operation conducted the same day in Tawakal, local forces killed another Al-Shabaab leader, identified by the ministry as Abdullahi Faadhuud.
The Ministry of Defense commended local residents and community forces for supporting the campaign against Al-Shabaab, saying their role in efforts to weaken and ultimately eliminate the militant group was becoming increasingly significant.
