Sylvester Namiwa, executive director of the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives, has been returned to police detention after being hospitalised when he fell ill in custody. His bail application is now before the High Court.
The activist was arrested on July 30 and charged with treason and publishing news likely to cause public alarm. Although his defence team has applied for his release, legal proceedings have continued to delay a decision on bail.
