Mandera (AX) — Two people were killed and another left badly injured on Monday after what police described as a suspected cross-border militia raid in Mandera County, close to the Kenya-Somalia frontier.

Police said in a report that about 10 heavily armed militia fighters, believed to have come in from Somalia, stormed Elgolicha village at around 3 a.m. and began shooting at residents.
Police said the attackers, armed with assault rifles, killed 82-year-old Abdo Ali Gole, who was identified as a member of the Garreh community.
His wife, Fatuma Issack, was wounded in the assault and initially taken to Elwak Referral Hospital before being moved to Wajir County Referral Hospital for specialized care.
Police said she sustained a fractured right radius, a gunshot wound to the right thigh and injuries to her left arm.
The gunmen also shot dead Ibrahim Issack, described as a middle-aged man, near the Kenya-Somalia border before escaping from the scene.
Security officials said tensions were still elevated between the Garreh and Marehan communities after the attack, adding that more security measures were being deployed to help restore calm.
