England vs Germany team news: Bukayo Saka starts

Bukayo Saka has retained his place in England, which starts XI ahead of its European Championship 2020 round 16 match with Germany.

The Three Lions look set to return to a back three to match the system their opponents at Wembley have used throughout the tournament.

Harry Maguire, John Stones and Kyle Walker have been selected as center-backs, while Kieran Trippier and Luke Shaw play right-back and left-back respectively. In midfield, Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips have been selected.

They will play behind the top three by Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Saka. This leaves England with an extremely strong bench where Jack Grealish, Mason Mount, Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho can change the game.

There is no place in the 23-man squad for Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Ben Chilwell, while Arsenal goal Ben White is not on the bench either.

However, Germany make three changes from the side that snuck through to the quarter-finals, despite having drawn 2-2 to Hungary last time. Bayern Munich legend Manuel Neuer starts in goal, behind back three by Matthias Ginter, Mats Hummels and Antonio Rudiger.

Joshua Kimmich and Robin Gosens look set to continue as full-backs while Ilkay Gundogan and Leon Goretzka – who made a late equalizer against Hungary – are in midfield.

Only one of the top three who played against Hungary retained their place. Kai Havertz remains but both Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry have been lost to Chelsea man Timo Werner and Thomas Muller.

Die Mannschaft has plenty of firepower from the bench to call. In addition to Sane and Gnabry, Jamal Musiala – who rejected the chance to play for England – could also be involved. The game starts at 17 GMT and the winner goes on to either Sweden or Ukraine in the quarterfinals.
