The World Food Programme attributes the crisis to a punishing combination of drought, conflict and displacement, all of which have left families struggling to secure enough food.

More than three decades of instability have also made it difficult to deliver aid across the country.
Now, steep reductions in international assistance are deepening the emergency. The WFP says it has received only a fraction of the funding required to provide support.
