The ministry described the upcoming vote as part of the broader rollout of local government elections in Banadir Region, following earlier groundwork for the regional electoral process.
In its statement, the ministry said the elections are meant to satisfy legal requirements and finish the formation of district administrations across Mogadishu.
Officials said they had reviewed the readiness of the institutions and parties involved and concluded that the conditions were now in place to proceed with the elections.
The ministry also urged political parties and elected local council members to wrap up their preparations ahead of polling day.
The announcement follows questions raised to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud over why elected council members had not yet been installed to select district commissioners in Banadir Region.
Mohamud responded that the electoral commission was the body responsible for setting the timetable for district leadership elections.
The July 5 vote is expected to become another milestone in the federal government’s push to broaden local representation and formalize district-level administration in Mogadishu.
