The session brought together government ministers, members of parliament, politicians, traditional elders, scholars, business figures, as well as youth and women representatives. Among those in attendance was the Hawadle community’s traditional chief, Ugaas Yusuf Ugaas Hassan Ugaas Khaliif.
The talks centered on unity, consultation, peacebuilding, and development in areas where the Hawadle community lives. Participants praised the creation of the council, saying it marked a significant move toward bringing different viewpoints under one umbrella and encouraging joint action.
Those who spoke at the meeting said the council could become a practical forum for solving problems and improving cooperation among the various segments of the community.
Former Education Minister Abdullahi Godah Barre urged people to rally behind the new body, calling for unity, support, and active engagement.
“Today, we must decide to support this council, contribute ideas, and work together. The most important thing is unity and commitment,” he said.
Former intelligence chief and lawmaker Abdullahi Mohamed Ali “Sanbalooshe” also emphasized the value of broad consultation, saying decisions should reflect collective unity rather than limited personal interests.
Minister of Petroleum and Minerals Dahir Shire Mohamed said the council should draw lessons from past experience to achieve real progress and avoid repeating earlier mistakes.
Wrapping up the meeting, Ugaas Yusuf Ugaas Hassan Ugaas Khaliif said the council speaks for the shared interests of the Hawadle community and will work to promote unity and development.
“We expect the council to prepare a clear plan so we can act together, embrace what benefits us, and reject what harms us. Those who oppose development will not succeed,” he said.
He also said the council intends to organize more large gatherings to discuss the community’s future and political path, with ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening unity within the clan.
