London (AX) — A knife attack in Golders Green, north London, has led to charges of attempted murder against a 45-year-old man after two Jewish men were stabbed, the Metropolitan Police Service said.

Police said Essa Suleiman, a British national born in Somalia, faces two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place in relation to the Golders Green incident.

He has also been charged with attempted murder in connection with an earlier incident on the same day in Great Dover Street, south London.

Investigators said officers were called at about 08:50 BST on Wednesday to Great Dover Street after the suspect allegedly got into a confrontation with a resident before departing the area. The resident suffered minor injuries.

The victims of the Golders Green stabbing were named as 34-year-old Shilome Rand and 76-year-old Moshe Ben Baila, also known locally as Moshe Shine. Police said the attack is being treated as an antisemitic incident.

The suspect, who entered the United Kingdom legally as a child, was Tasered and arrested at the scene, police confirmed. He remains in custody.

The investigation is now being led by counterterrorism officers, with enquiries continuing.
