Las Anod (AX) — Heavy clashes in Adhi-Addeeye district of the Sool region left at least 20 people dead and 33 others injured on Monday, according to local sources.

Among the casualties were women, children and elderly residents, although the reported toll has not yet been officially verified.

Local sources said armed groups attacked civilians in Adhi-Addeeye amid tensions between communities living in the area.

According to local accounts, the violence began around 10 a.m. after two armed men came under attack on the road to Adhi-Addeeye. One was killed and the other wounded in the opening incident, while a third person nearby was hit by stray bullets, the reports said.

The situation then worsened after the dead and injured were moved to Yagoori town, where the confrontation reportedly expanded into a broader fight between the two sides, causing more deaths and injuries.

Residents said the violence left civilians among the dead and wounded, while several homes were torched and property suffered heavy damage.

The unrest erupted against a backdrop of longstanding tensions among local communities in the area.

There was no immediate statement from the Sool regional administration or security agencies on the number of casualties or any steps being taken to restore order.

Local residents have appealed for swift intervention to halt the fighting and avert further loss of life.
