BOSSASO, Northeastern State – Northeastern State security forces [PSF] stepped up the fight against IS-Somalia extremists who lobbied for control of the northern state, but whose efforts were often unsuccessful thanks to vigilant security forces in the region.

PSF on Friday dislodged IS-Somalia militants from their hidden base in the village of Timirse, officials hailing the gain as a “significant achievement” in operations to make Northeastern State a terrorist-free region in Somalia . The region is considered the safest in Somalia.

During the operation, security forces said, four IS-Somalia militants were killed instantly after exchanging gunfire with security forces. In the process, reports further indicated that two Northeastern State security force officers were seriously injured and are now being treated in various hospitals.

The PSF praised the great role the residents played in supporting the troops, including, but not limited to, while always providing soldiers with intelligence on the operations of the militants. Residents, PSF said, should always work closely with security forces.

It comes just two weeks after PSF attacked rocky areas of IS-Somalia after the team was targeted by militants in a convoy to the villages of Hamure and Balidhidin, leaving one soldier seriously injured. The troops were carrying out operations in the villages in pursuit of the militants.

And in a swift response, troops with the help of other Northeastern State security forces embarked on a mission to track down the militants, killing them in the process. The militants often carry out sporadic small to large-scale attacks primarily targeting the Northeastern State security forces.

One of those killed was a bomb maker and another had a camera with him. One of the camera videos showed the scene where a bomb attack targeted the security forces and the militants also had explosives in their possession which were confiscated during the operation.

“Today, two explosions targeted a convoy of PSF vehicles near the village of Hamure in Balidhidin, in the Bari region, injuring a soldier. After a swift response from the PSF, with the support of other PL security agencies, responsible ISIS fighters were found and killed in action. »Read the statement.

“One of the ISIS fighters was a bomb maker and the other had a camera, intended to produce propaganda videos. One of the videos in their possession was of the explosion that occurred earlier today. Other explosive equipment and materials were also recovered from the scene. “

Northeastern State security forces have escalated the war on militants in recent months, targeting both ISIS-Somalia and Al-Shabaab militants, whose presence in the region is minimal. But above all, it was the IS-Somalia team that suffered immense losses.

Not so long ago, security forces killed foreign fighters with IS-Somalia in the Golis Mountains. The US military has only carried out an operation once in the state, but for the most part, the PSF have taken over most areas, driving the militants from their hiding places.

Former al-Shabaab-turned-ISIS defector Said Abdulle Dilib told state media about Al-Shabaab’s messages and recruitment. When Al Shabaab wants something from you, they will give you whatever you want, they will try to keep you, he said.
