It’s been a long time coming, but Jadon Sancho is finally a Manchester United player.

Officially. Pictures in the kit and everything. What a time to live in.

Jadon Sancho – Finally in red? pic.twitter.com/wSs1TGc972

It was a move we all knew would happen. In a risky, generally never seen before, United announced in advance that an agreement had been reached with Borussia Dortmund on their long-term goals. But given that the club had tried (and failed) to sign him for the past 18 months, there was still some concern that the deal could collapse at the last hurdle.

But this time they got her husband, much to the relief of fans who were happy to finally see him in red.

• #mufc pressed hard to sign him in 2017 • Ole made him a priority goal since 2018 • Jadon has wanted to join since 2019

Finally … Sancho is a red. pic.twitter.com/qxTwsvGPKg

Rio Ferdinand even wrote a song about it …

Viva SanchoViva SanchoDrive along the wing Hear United singViva Sancho … @ Sanchooo10? @ManUtd #MUFC ❤️https: //t.co/wtReQJiosg

– Rio Ferdinand (@ rioferdy5) July 23, 2021

Not sure the words fit the tune there, Rio, but lit.

Sancho came through rivals Manchester City, so when he claimed that he “belongs” in United, rival fans had something to say about it.

He did not make a single first team appearance for City and left for Dortmund 2017 with the first team’s football in sight.

‘This is my club, this is where I belong,’ says Sancho, a London-born ex-Man City player?

Sancho said “this is my club, this is where I belong” did not this guy grow up for Man City?

What are the odds if sancho scores an own goal against Manchester city and @ ManCity-admin posts the picture below. pic.twitter.com/1yzC0y7eJD

Ask United fans if they care about his history at the Etihad, but you get a definite answer.

The deal put United back a cool 85 million euros – or just over 72 million pounds.

It comes after the recent expensive signings of Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes, and makes United the continent’s biggest spending club during the last three summer windows.

At Sancho, @ManUtd has taken net spending over the last three summers to 295 million euros, more than any other major European club during the same period.

– Simon Stone (@ sistoney67) July 23, 2021

However, Sancho managed 50 goals and 67 assists in 137 games for Dortmund. He has 22 England hats under his belt, and he’s only 21.

It is a very good signing. No one can deny it, right?

Oh wait. Twitter is available.

And so it begins https://t.co/NnitxKwMFX

Jadon Sancho will flop at Manchester United.

– Sharyf? (@__Sharyf) July 23, 2021

If Sancho does not win the Champions League during his first season at United, he is a flop …

– Adwoa ?? (@AdwoaClara) July 23, 2021

The signing means that United are closer than ever in the time after the Alex Ferguson era to having a team that can compete for titles. They finished second last year, but with Sancho’s tricks and creativity on the wing, there is real optimism that they can go one step further next season.

Since United will not do it, I will do it. We’ve signed the Jadon Sancho guy from Dortmund. He is very good at football. We will win the league. pic.twitter.com/ZUdAzSRQtM

We will win the league, we will win the league! #mufc #sancho #letsgo

But fans are not happy with staying there. Has anyone received Raphael Varane’s phone number?

About time, get Varane now #ManUtd #Sancho #Transfers https://t.co/WibO9BL4jk
