Queen Elizabeth writes a letter to Southgate

Queen Elizabeth has written an encouragement and compliment to Gareth Southgate and his players in England and sent her “congratulations” and “good wishes” for the Euro 2020 final against Italy on Sunday night.

This group of players is the first to reach a grand final in an international tournament since the World Cup winning side in 1966, which Queen Elizabeth herself was there to congratulate 55 years ago.

And Her Majesty has written a letter to Coach Southgate and his stars, congratulating them on their achievements and praising them for their “spirit, dedication and pride” over the past month.

“Fifty-five years ago, I was fortunate enough to present the World Cup to Bobby Moore and saw what it meant for players, management and support staff to reach and win the final of a major international football tournament,” the Queen wrote.

“I want to send my congratulations and my family to you all to reach the final of the European Championships, and send my best wishes for [Sunday] with the hope that history will not only register your success but also the spirit, commitment and pride that you have pursued. “

England will face the Azzurri at Wembley on Sunday, where they hope to make history by becoming the first Three Lions side to win the tournament and the first to win any major cutlery since the 1966 World Cup success.

A very, very special message to Gareth Southgate and #ThreeLions.

Southgate’s men have defeated Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine and Denmark on their way to the European Championship 2020 finals and have only conceded one goal in the six matches played. Captain Harry Kane was the man who fired the three lions in the final and made the return from his own missed penalty to hand over England to win in overtime of the semi-final.

The Tottenham Hotspur man will now dream of becoming just the second England captain to ever lift a trophy for the Three Lions.
