Officials in the capital told the media that the president plans to give the envoys a detailed update on Somalia’s security and political climate. At the center of the discussion is expected to be a formal complaint over the Ethiopian government’s activities in the region.

Mohamud is expected to express concern about Addis Ababa’s ongoing engagement with the North Western State of Somalia administration, as well as what Mogadishu sees as backing for Southwest State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen. The federal government has increasingly characterized those moves as interference in Somalia’s internal affairs and a direct challenge to its sovereignty.
