Pavlovic Sidelined for Euro 2024: Can Secures Spot in Germany’s National Team

Due to illness, Aleksandar Pavlovic will miss Euro 2024. Julian Nagelsmann of Germany has appointed Emre Can as his stand-in.

Aleksandar Pavlovic, Bayern Munich’s vibrant midfielder, has contracted tonsillitis, sidelining him from Euro 2024, mere days before their clash against Scotland in Group A.

Despite the youngster’s brief tenure with the national team marked only by a friendly against Ukraine, his debut international tournament has been derailed. Pavilion missed practice sessions in Herzogenaurach in the days leading up to the announcement.

Julian Nagelsmann, the head coach of Die Mannschaft, swiftly secured Borussia Dortmund’s skipper, Emre Can, as Pavlovic’s substitute.

Can, fresh from steering Dortmund to a Champions League showdown at Wembley where they faced defeat against Real Madrid, was selected by Nagelsmann, citing his robust experience with 43 national caps and his knack for thriving under pressure as key attributes.

“Emre was the perfect candidate for another deep-lying midfielder,” explained Nagelsmann. “He jumped at the chance and assured us of his readiness to contribute immediately.”

Thomas Tuchel had been instrumental in Pavlovic’s stellar season at Allianz Arena. Nonetheless, his sudden illness means a significant gap in Germany’s setup.

With 19 games played this Bundesliga season and 15 victories, the team notched 54 goals. However, Pavlovic’s absence was conspicuous; Bayern won only eight games without him and allowed 14 additional goals.
