Mohamed Salah admits he has “special motivation” to beat Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has hinted that he is keen to get over Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos when the pair meet in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The rivalry between the two goes back to the 2018 Champions League final, when Salah was forced off early with a shoulder injury that he picked up in a mess with Ramos, and many have claimed that it was the Spaniard’s intention to injure Salah.

Their paths have not crossed since then, but they are about to rediscover their feud when they meet in the knockout stages after an international break, and Salah admitted that he is looking forward to the chance to pick up his first victory against Real.

“Let’s just say I have a special motivation to win the tie and advance to the semifinals,” he told Marca. “What will happen now will not change the outcome of the final in Kiev. It is earlier.

“That game has been before, so I do not think about it. I think about the team. Everyone is focused on their team and everyone wants to win … that’s it.”

Liverpool travel to Madrid for the first match on April 6 before welcoming Zinedine Zidane’s side back to Anfield eight days later.

As is the tradition of these Spanish interviews for Salah, he was asked if he would ever move to La Liga. Salah apparently loves flirting with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, and although he did not mention the names this time, it seems that his interest in moving to Spain remains.

“[In the rest of my career] I hope to do the same as I have done in recent years. Winning trophies, scoring goals, helping my team win trophies … that’s the most important thing for me, he continued.

“It’s not up to me [whether I leave Liverpool]. We’ll see what happens but I prefer not to talk about it now.

“I hope to be able to play for many more years. Why not [move to Spain]? No one knows what will happen in the future, so … maybe one day, yes. “
