Jozy Altidore finally took back training with Toronto FC

Jozy Altidore is finally back in training with Toronto FC after an argument with former head coach Chris Armas led the player to isolated sessions.

The player has not played for the Canadian Major League Soccer side since May 22 in the match against Orlando City, where he was substituted in the 70th minute. It was reported that when Altidore left the field, he and Arma exchanged hot words that forced the player into a secluded situation. Since then, he has trained in his rented property in Toronto but no longer. Altidore confirmed his first team return during Monday’s training session on media availability, explaining the situation and the feeling ahead.

He said: “Sometimes things go as they go. My commitment, to want to win, it has not changed. It was difficult to be away from the team. This team always comes first.”

After the club’s 7-1 loss to DC United on July 4, Toronto FC announced that they are different from former head coach Chris Armas. The management change ultimately inspired a healthier communication between the team and the player when Altidore admitted that he received a phone call from club president Bill Manning after weeks of silence.

“Things happen all the time,” Altidore said when asked if he felt he was treated fairly during his absence. “I have no harm in anyone. I just want to focus on the positive. ”

Despite the situation, Altidore kept its commitment to lead the club to success. Toronto FC is currently in last place in the Eastern Conference with eight points in 12 games and a goal difference of negative 13. Altidore has made four games with the team so far this season and recorded one goal.

“If there’s anyone out there who’s figuring us out, they’re making a big mistake,” Altidore said. “I’m just happy to be back,” said Altidore. “I’m happy to play again. Watching so much football but not being able to play is not easy.”

After Arma’s resignation, the club hired Javier Perez as interim head coach as leader. Toronto earned its first victory under Perez and defeated the New England Revolution 3-2 to reduce the points difference.
