Christian Eriksen is discharged from hospital after heart surgery

Denmark’s midfielder Christian Eriksen has been discharged from hospital, less than a week after receiving a cardiac arrest on the pitch.

Doctors restarted the 29-year-old’s heart on the pitch and transported him quickly to a nearby hospital, where he was equipped with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator that could shock his heart to a normal rhythm.

Fortunately, the procedure went well and the Danish FA has now confirmed that Eriksen has had to leave the hospital to be with his family.

“Christian Eriksen has undergone a successful operation and was today released from Righospitalet”, reads a statement on Twitter.

“Today he also visited the national team in Elsinore – and from there he goes home and spends time with his family.”

Eriksen added: “Thank you for the huge number of greetings – it has been incredible to see and feel. The operation went well and I feel good under the circumstances.

“It was great to see the guys again after the fantastic game they played last night. No need to say that I will cheer them on Monday against Russia.”

The fantastic news comes shortly after the German doctor Jens Kleinfeld revealed how he rushed from the stands to help resume Eriksen’s heart and share the traumatic events of the midfielder’s resuscitation to Bild.

“He opened his eyes and spoke to me,” Kleinfeld said. “I asked him in English, ‘Are you back?’ “He said, ‘Yes, I’m here.’ And then he said, ‘Oh, I’m only 29 years old.’

“I told him that everything was OK now and that he was no longer in danger. He understood everything immediately and immediately put his arm around his chest. ”
