Chelsea Secures Rising Star: Aston Villa Prodigy Kellyman Joins The Blues

Omari Kellyman has inked a deal with Chelsea, moving from Aston Villa in a transaction that’s pegged at a steep £19 million.

Kellyman, a rising star on the England youth scene, has appeared in six senior matches for Villa.

He shifted to Villa Park from Derby County in 2022.

Yet, the hefty sum shelled out by Chelsea for the 18-year-old prodigy is stirring some disquiet.

Both Chelsea and Villa might be flirting with violations of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR), risking point deductions.

However, unloading academy talents equates to sheer profit for the seller. Kellyman’s transfer occurred just a day after Villa nabbed Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for a stately £37.5 million.

Last week, Villa also lured Lewis Dobbin from Everton for £10 million, following their £9 million sale of Tim Iroegbunam to the same club.

Chelsea has also announced Hakim Ziyech’s exit. He has permanently joined Galatasaray following a fruitful loan period last term.

Ziyech transitioned on a gratis basis, with conditions met for Gala to affirm the move.

The Moroccan, an Ajax transfer in 2020, signed with Chelsea for five years but struggled to secure a regular spot at Stamford Bridge.

His tally stands at 64 Premier League appearances, with six goals, nine assists, and 72 created opportunities, accumulating an expected assists (xA) score of 7.78.
