The UN’s new concerns for the English – speaking regions

A meeting was planned in Central Africa on Wednesday at the UN. Many members of the Security Council are concerned about the lack of commitment by national authorities to the English-speaking regions.

as reported from New York,Carrie Nooten

The UN Special Representative for Central Africa returned from Cameroon very worried a few weeks ago. Especially because the continued violence in the northwestern and southwestern part of the country, in English-speaking areas, François Louncény Fall insisted: “I regret the fact that violence in the north-west and south-west regions is directed at civilians, including students and teachers, as well as religious people. During my visit, I reiterated the Secretary – General’s appeal to all parties concerned to refrain from violence, silence weapons and stop attacks on civilian and civilian infrastructure such as educational institutions. “

German Ambassador Günter Schutter insisted that the Council pay more attention to Cameroon, given the potential impact it could have on the region: “It is important that peace is created in the regions. Anglophones in conflict. There will be no military solution. Inclusive political dialogue is the only viable path to peace. The measures taken so far – including laws adopted after the great national dialogue – are not enough. ”

They call on the government to respect the ambitions of the Anglophones and to implement decentralization.
