South Africa has moved to stop Ghana’s bid to put anti-immigrant demonstrations and xenophobic violence on the African Union’s October agenda, the Daily Maverick reports.

Pretoria is instead pressing for a wider debate that would bring more countries into the conversation and examine what it describes as “push-pull factors” — the difficult political and economic conditions elsewhere that prompt people to leave their home countries for South Africa and other destinations.
