At least 30 people have died and 22 others were injured when a mound of rubbish collapsed onto homes at a major waste site in Conakry, Guinea, following heavy rain. Six of those injured are in serious condition.
Authorities warned that the death toll could still rise as rescue teams, backed by the military, combed through the debris with excavators in search of survivors. Prime Minister Mamadou Oury Bah visited the site to supervise the emergency response.

The government had previously ordered residents to leave nearby informal housing because of concerns that the waste could collapse. A similar landslide at the site killed 10 people in 2017.
